Leon: The Professional movie review

0110413

The Professional stars Jean Reno, Gary Oldman, and the movie debut of Natalie Portman. The Professional is about a hitman, or cleaner, Leon who is one of the best. After witnessing the death of a young girls family, Mathilda, he takes her in and teaches her his ways. The Professional is rated in the top 100 movies of almost any respected list, and for good reason! This is good old fashioned, no holds barred, balls to the wall action! With some added heart for good measure. If blood and violence offends you, DO NOT watch this movie. They are not afraid to show a teenage girl get blown away with a shot gun. Gary Oldman is a fantastic actor, everybody knows this. In this movie Gary Oldman is a scum of the earth DEA agent turned bad. He plays crazy very well, I would almost compare it to Heath Ledger as the joker type crazy. What I love about this movie is that you end up caring about these characters so much. I find that in movies these days you can predict exactly what will happen from the beginning and characters are often two dimensional. I could have never guessed what was going to happen. Jean Reno tells us so little about his character, to where you almost have to guess. Leon is a disturbed, uneducated man, with a big heart, just doing what he is good at. During the climax of the movie my heart was pounding extremely hard, I couldn’t tear my eyes from the screen. I miss that feeling in movies. I only had two problems. The strange sexualization of a 12 year old. Though it was very little and they were trying to convey that she saw herself as very mature. And that the trailer gives away everything, luckily I watched it afterwords. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone, even if you don’t like older movies. Just get over it, its worth it!
