Jake Gyllenhaal melts into every role he takes on. Nothing more proves that than Southpaw. Gyllenhaal plays Billy Hope, undefeated boxing champion of the world. Billy is a little bit fucked up though, and by a little I mean a lot! After his wife gets shot and he blames himself, he becomes reckless and loses his daughter… Now, this is a fantastic movie. It really is. But it is one of the, if not the most depressing movie I have EVER seen. Though Gyllenhaal kills this role, and absolutely becomes this troubled man, the movie is brought down a few notches by the onslaught of drama. This movie always has very little re-watch ability. I liked it, you will like it, butbe in the right state of mind before hand.
