Suicide Squad movie review

suicide-squad-movie-2016-poster

How could I NOT see this on the first day? If I’m going to see any movie on the first day it comes out, it is gonna be Suicide Squad!.. This movie is complicated, because, without a doubt in my mind it is a very good movie. Yet for some reason I still find myself to be a little disappointed. The only reasoning I can come up with is that the anticipation and hype of this movie had gotten to a point where literally nothing could live up to it. It’s a classic Jurassic World scenario… I don’t feel like an introduction or synopsis is really needed for this, but, for this few that aren’t obsessed with everything Marvel and DC yet… A secret government agency assembles a task force of the most dangerous super villains in the world that they have imprisoned. Shit goes down, and these bad guys that have been in prison are let out, on a leash… And that’s actually pretty much it. It’s a very straight forward plot! Awesome though!.. The movie starts out with half hour of origin stories for everyone, which, normally I wouldn’t like, but, it actually brought a lot more to the movie after learning about their backgrounds. The best origin story of all though was for one Dr. Harleen Quinzel AKA Harley Quinn. Her and Jokers story span the entire movie with flashbacks, and seeing her go from doctor to the crazy queen of Gotham city is spectacular… Speaking of Joker, lets talk about the one thing everyone has been talking about since this movie was announced. The Joker, with Jared Leto. There is a lot to this Joker, and if I am being one hundred percent honest, I am still making up my mind completely! But, one thing I do know was that it was a phenomenal performance by Jared Leto. This Joker is many things, crazy, scary, psycho, king, boss, lover, but, what he also is is believable as every last one of them at the same time, and that is hard to do. Making someone an utter psychopath but also mafia boss of sorts and in love… That is skill and I am glad we got to see those sides of him! HOWEVER… The Joker was barely in this and was not who carried this movie. Will Smith and Margot Robbie carried this movie on their shoulders. Will Smith as Deadshot was an easy role for him, no doubt. He is bad-ass and charismatic. That does not take away from the fact that every moment he was on screen I either got goose bumps or laughed! Margot Robbie however stretched her acting chops to places I don’t even think SHE knew they could go for this, and her role was an emotional roller coaster!.. Jai Courtney finally found something he isn’t shit in too! So good for him! Killer Croc was probably the only character that I never had a good time with, but, it is hard to make that character and not have him be stupid… As for our villain… The real villain of the movie was Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis, the woman who assembled them and makes them fight under threat of death…However the villain they go after is very well put together. They give her a great origin and not just a bad guy for the purpose of being a bad guy. Cara Delevingne plays the witch known as Enchantress that is attempting to wipe out all technology in the world. Giving her this role was risky, as she is a newer actor and most commonly known for her hated role in Paper Towns. But, it payed off as she made Enchantress incredibly seductive and intimidating, rounding out the villain perfectly… Last but not least I want to talk about the soundtrack. When 21 Pilots came out with Heathens for this movie it got me more excited for a movie I was very scared about the idea of. Many times this soundtrack made this movie ten times better and brought it to life… I will definitely go see this again in theaters!

Captain America: Civil War movie review

civil-war-poster-3.jpg

It took me long enough to see this! Damn!.. I’m just going to refer to this as Civil War because in every sense, this is an Avengers movie. Civil war doesn’t need much of an introduction. Everyone and their sister has looked forward to this movie for a very long time… So, at the beginning of the movie Wanda accidentally kills a bunch of civilians which causes everyone to look closer at the damage the Avengers truly cause. The UN fashions up an agreement, making the Avengers a government run “back up” of sorts. Captain America and a bunch of other super heroes disagree, Iron Man and a bunch of other super heroes agree. At the same time Bucky (Winter Soldier) is trying to escape the clutches of the government and Captain America is helping… This movie had every possibility to be a giant cluster fuck. This had every opportunity disappoint everyone! This movie has so much talent and so much buildup that it would take a miracle (or Marvel studios) to handle all of that!.. But it did… This movie has the same light hearted tone most of the time we are use to. But, countering that, when it needed to be serious it was. For the first time in a Marvel movie I was concerned for the characters lives! Lets touch on the characters now, and there are a lot of them! Iron Man and Captain America countered each other superbly. They clashed and you saw their friendship crumble because of it. Bucky was amazing and I was very invested in his story. I was worried his story would get in the way but I loved learning how he came to be! The reveal of Black Panther was awesome, especially the reveal of who he was! Seeing a hero who does not act as an Avenger, and does not want to be one is great! Paul Rudd as Ant Man was awesome comic relief and fit in SO much better than I thought he would. Everyone else was as you would expect them, BUT the one everyone looked forward to is Spider Man! Everyone but me. Going in to this I was not excited about Spider Man. In fifteen years I have seen 5 movies and 2 different actors… I was blown away! Tom Holland NAILED every aspect of Spider Man. He is a better Peter Parker than Tobey Maguire and a better Spider Man than Andrew Garfield! If you like him make sure to stick around for the end credits!.. This movie is great and you have to see it!.. But, you already knew that. Didn’t you?

Doctor Strange trailer review

doctor_strange_movie_poster_by_jo7a-d9lw6si.png

I know literally nothing about Doctor Strange. I don’t know what his powers are like, how he fits into the universe, what he does. Nothing… I don’t know anything more after this trailer, BUT, that is a good thing! This is a teaser. It isn’t meant to tell you much, just to get you excited! Unlike the rest of the world, I don’t have a hard on for Benedict Cumberbatch. He is a good actor, but, I don’t regard him in the same way everyone else seems to… This trailer got me excited none the less! All I could really gather is that he was once a surgeon and got in a terrible accident that prevented him from saving lives. He was then taught by a bald woman to jump between realities. That is what I know and I have NO IDEA if it is right… What I do now is that the visuals behind this trailer are breathtaking and even if the movie is shit (it’s Marvel so it won’t be) at least it will look gorgeous.

Deadpool movie review

teaser-one-sheet

If I could sum this up in a sentence? Good question, nobody in particular!.. One giant, awesome, bad-ass, hilarious, vulgar, fourth wall break… Does that count as a sentence? I’m not sure, but, it’s not like I’m a writer or anything… Deadpool really needs no introduction, but I’m going to give it one because I want to. Deadpool stars Ryan Reynolds as Wade. Wade is ex military, and now works as a mercenary. He falls in love with a woman with a TON of issues, Vanessa… A little down the line he is diagnosed with cancer and goes to a mysterious man who cures him but also makes him ugly as hell and have super human abilities… Boom! Deadpool!.. It’s honestly a really simple premise, there are no real twists and it ends how you think it will. Being deep is not why you will love it… This movies is amazing on so many levels, I’m not going to sugar coat it or anything, it is just fucking awesome. It is also EXTREMELY rated R. You see multiple people in full frontal nudity, a couple sex scenes, “fuck” is used with nonchalance, and TWICE Deadpool uses a person decapitated head as a soccer ball… Like I said, fucking awesome. It is fun from start to end, the opening credits and opening actions sequence lets you know EXACTLY what kind of ride you are in for… I’ll be honest, I have never read a Deapool comic but from what I understand he talks to the reader. If that is true than they nailed this shit. He NEVER stops narrating. But not just narrating, actually talking like he knows he is in a movie. When he is talking to Colossus he literally asks which actor is playing Professor X! He says he fondled Wolverines balls to get in the movie, and he explicitly requests not to have a green, animated suit!.. I know it’s a small role but it has to be mentioned. T.J. Miller. T.J. Miller is one of the funniest people in comedy right now and I love him in this. I wondered if they just sat him and Ryan Reynolds down in a room for a while and said “be funny” and then put it in the movie… Writing this I am working very hard not to spoil anything because all I want to do is talk about every single detail of this movie. But, I can’t. All I can tell you is that you need to see it. I’m going to see it again, and then probably again.
