Anthem: my first thoughts

Anthem is a game that is not only widely anticipated, but highly anticipated within my close knit group of friends… Destiny was big for me and everyone I game with and when Destiny 2 came out I was very ecstatic. Unfortunately, Destiny 2 was a major let down and fell off of my radar rather quickly. I, along with everyone else, have kept myself busy with Overwatch been have been starved for a new MMO. Well, I’m very happy to say that if you are in this same boat than this will fill that hole.

Anthem is an MMORPG, or “Massively-Miltiplayer-Online-Role-Playing-Game”. Though I have never played Warframe I hear it compared to that quite a bit. I feel it is HEAVILY like Destiny though. Like Destiny it is a shooter with heavily customizable loudouts, looting systems, and co-op missions. On the surface however two aspects set the games apart. Anthem is a third person shooter instead of first and allows you to pick from multiple different exosuits, or Javelins. The Javelins play different roles in combat such as tank, distance, speed, and all-around. I like this a lot because I always felt MMO’s on console lacked roles in combat.

As for the gameplay itself it is is very smooth. Combat makes you feel powerful yet still becomes overwhelming if you get carried away. Flying is fun and feels like you’re Iron Man. The visuals are fantastic with the world being really unique and just awesome to look at when you’re not getting shot.

All around I think this game will be a hit as long as EA doesn’t make the same mistakes they have in the past. But as for BioWare, I think they are back to the makers we know and love.

Destiny 2 game review

So this is a review that has been a long time coming. I realize I am WAY late on it compared to other reviewers and critics, but I wanted to get my head fully wrapped around this game and log enough time playing and watching it to accurately give my assessment… Destiny 2, very obviously, is the the sequel to what I guess we will from here on out call “Destiny 1”. It starts out with the tower getting attacked and taken over. Not only that but the light is taken away from all the guardians making them mortals. We, as in the guardian we play, are important to the story because we are the only one that gets our light back and can’t die again. As far as story lines go, this one is top notch… except for the fact that this is an MMO and we are running around and playing with a bunch of other guardians that ALSO have their light back. But, whatever, I won’t get too hung up on that… To cut straight to the point on Destiny 2, I think that there is potention here but this release is over-all pretty bad so far. I love the fact that the world feels much more open and makes you actually explore the environment rather than simply fast traveling everywhere. Just in the way it feels I believe it represents a proper MMO better that way. I also like the fact that everything is much more customizable now, allowing shaders on everything. What I definitely like the most though is the fact that all gear is equal. No more stupid random roles after hours of grinding for a specific gun. If you want it to do different things just modify it! Now, on to the bad… This game STILL does not feel different enough to me. When I first started playing it I wasn’t blown away or in awe of anything new it offered. I simply felt like I was just playing Destiny again. In fact, I was more impressed when Rise of Iron came out! I kept playing it simply because it is Destiny 2 though and found myself feeling weak, a feeling I never once got in Destiny even when I was getting my ass handed to me. I no longer feel powerful, just like another guy and that’s not whet I want out of this. I want a challenge, but I want the challenge to make me feel god-like. Also, the endgame needs  a LOT of work, as it is completely unsatisfying… In conclusion I am quite disappointed by Destiny 2, but we are essentially in vanilla right now, and we have no idea how far this could go and how much it could add on. I have hope for that, and what they added in did make a better MMO experience, now the game and story itself just needs a bit of polishing!
